I’m going to give you the answer in the first line. Yes.
But Why?
A blue sky promotes happy feelings, happy memories and the desire for a less stressful season. It’s symbolic of freedom, release, escape and hope. Studies have found that a sunny day can incease people’s ‘helpfulness’, it increases their ‘yes’!
Sunlight has long been a catalyst to the release of serotonin in the human brain. Releasing this hormone creates a mood enhancer. It’s the reason why S.A.D lamps are produced. They are a mood enhancer and natural daylight, in particular sunlight is a natural mood enhancer.
Consider this study, a man asks a lady for her number during the day. Only 13% of participants were willing to release their number too him on the grey drizzly day. On a sunny blue sky day that rose to 32%. Obviously he wouldn’t have got any numbers had he not asked the question.
Applying this to the property market – You are more likely to get a viewing booked with a sunny blue sky picture than you are with a damp post rainy picture. A ‘would you like to view this property?’ question would be far more likely to get a positive response if the potential purchaser had seen a picture of a blue sky, as opposed to a grey one.
How do the pictures below make you feel when you look at them? The first picture languished on the market with very few viewings for 9 months, I can see why. We sold it for £224,000 from its £225,000 price tag. Each person that came to view (and there were lots) viewed because it looked so beautiful.
Is this the main reason why Spring and early Summer are so popular among movers?
I’m rather strict with my sellers, I will NOT release a home without a blue sky. Since the start of the company each front photograph has a blue sky. It is so important that I will wait to release it. Are you in a rush to get on the market? Did you know that a photograph without a blue sky doesn’t command as much attention? Did you know about the study for sofas? In this study, some participants were shown a blue sky behind a sofa, and another set of participants didn’t see the blue sky behind. The sofa with the blue sky group was purchased more often than the group that didn’t see the blue sky.
Now you know why. When you agent sends you your property details without a blue sky, you need to ask yourself if they are really the right agent for you? When interviewing ask them why? I bet I’m the only one who can tell you why, (Unless they read this of course) but I’ll be only one who can tell you where the research was done!
It’s all rather technical, and you don’t really need to know the reasons why, you need to be clear that the agent you are instructing on your home, will do their absolute best to get you the sale that you need, for the price you deserve in the time frame you would like with as little hassle as possible.
I hope you have the most amazing day
