I had a phone call just yesterday from a man who had a home to sell. His name was Edward. He said he was confused about service levels, price, bundles, options, levels, extra’s, differences. He had had 4 estate agents round already. Edward called for some advice. He must have known I was good with advice. The same thing happened last week too, my wonderful youngest brother is selling his home on the Isle of Wight and he, too, was confused. They all said roughly the same things, the price was different though, some included things, some didn’t, some were percentages some fixed. Some pushed for the sell, some didn’t.
Both Edward and Martin couldn’t see the difference in the agents. They couldn’t see why, and certainly couldn’t choose one. Not one agent outshone any others.
I was then asked which one I would choose, of course, I can’t answer that, choosing an agent is personal. They have to fit right, have the same values, a common goal and a master plan. So, how could Martin and Edward really find the difference? I asked them to call each one back, or ideally drop in, ask to see the manager or the person who would be looking after their home and ask this one question:
“If my home doesn’t sell quickly, or fails to get interest, what do you do then?”
Wait for their answer, then ask the next agent and the next agent. One will have the answer you are looking for, and that answer will be so good, you’ll need to hire them immediately.
Until next time
Ps: Try not to rush an important decision. This is your home and you bought it because you loved it, it meant something to you. The right estate agent will not only see this but will be able to re-imagine this in all that they do in the selling process. Enjoy.
Pps: Why not find out why I love my clients
