I love you because you are always so happy to hear from me. You invite me into your home after a small conversation and you are always excited & nervous. You always care what I think of your home. You’ve cleaned, dusted, polished, vacuumed and dressed the bed with your fancy cushions just for your valuation. You worry about what I think of your decor, not giving a thought to your own time to get ready. Sometimes you meet me still harassed from preparing your house for my visit and spend the first 10 minutes explaining how you don’t normally look like this and how you have been squeezing it all in to be ready for my arrival.
You offer me a tea and coffee and don’t wince when I politely decline for a glass of water, as I explain how I don’t drink hot drinks, then you feel awkward to make yourself one whilst I examine your lounge. You never complain that I don’t always drink it as we are discussing your future plans. You worry about what the fluffy excitable dog will do with its creamy white fur, you struggle to get him to come away from me in fear that he’ll ladder my tights or get my dress dirty. I love my clients as you always know what you want, you have a dream that you love to share, how the next house will be better, well equipped, and more modern. You disclose some of your fears, your history, and the reason your house doesn’t fit you anymore and despite the sadness that this home has been yours for so long, you hold back the tears of change.
I love you more, because before you tell me anything you point out all the bad stuff first. That the window cleaner can’t do the rear bedroom window and how the boiler keeps having problems. I love the 10 minute conversation over your choice of use for your spare bedroom, how it was your sons bedroom before he went to university and since then it was your hobby room, that got taken over by the clothes horse and ironing board and that now it is your junk room. I love the face you pull when I say I can help you with this room!
Each time we go into a room with a built in traditional cupboard and you tell me how that is just storage, and you really don’t want me to open it as I know you’ve put all your stuff in there to make the best impression. You got out the fancy face creams and designer perfume and placed it out to give a good first impression. On the photograph appointment you watch whilst I empty your room of everything I don’t want in the photograph, you apologise profusely as you haven’t cleaned behind that one extra side table even though I never see the dust. It’s part of life. And you never complain when you can’t find your remote control later that day. The fact that you go into a panic on the first hint of a viewing and clean like your life depended on it, as this could be the one. I love how you always try and light the fire, leave little notes on the side for me about letting the cat out and moving the dog bed (just in case we forget). Then we leave little notes back to re-assure you that ‘we’ve got this’. You leave me little posies of flowers on my birthday because you know I’m at work all the time because I love it.
You are always bright and happy, even when things don’t go to plan, because you know that we can’t stop people cancelling, or the occasional no show and you accept that. Because even when it’s bad news, you know your happy ending is just around the corner, because you know, that we are doing everything in our power to make you happy.
You are the reason we are here
